Interesting.
First of all, I absolutely love dystopian futures, and this street scene is no exception.
A few notes though:
When in cramped up spaces, like buildings, the view jumped all over the place. Perhaps first person view would have helped for this. I think it would have also made for a better experience, but maybe that's just me.
I also noticed some performance issues sometimes, mainly when a lot of things are in view. (For example, when I was standing behind the 'band' and looking towards the street, got worse when the worm came through)
It was a bit strange to walk through characters, but given that you made it in 5 days I can overlook it.
If you decide to make another 'scene' like this, I suggest having some interaction with some characters. (Click on a character -> character does animation or says hello or smth)
Overall I really liked it, and now I'm gonna check out how you made it :)

Jasonario responds:

Definitely plan on expanding this universe! I agree it feels like a good place for a big game. I agree on pretty much every point you made, so as I expand I'll refer to these notes. Thanks very much for your feedback and glad you liked it!

I absolutely love this game! I did find some bugs which I will try to explain in this review.

I somehow managed to open one of those garages. When I played the next run the garage seemed closed but I could still enter it.

When I tried a new run the items I picked up stayed away (except for the powerups), unless I restarted the game with G. This might have been intentional, but it would be nice if at least the energy packs respawned for a new game (and maybe also the obstacles).

Beating the rivals seems... odd. Sometimes I feel like I never passed the rival and I still win (never mind, they probably crashed), some other time I clearly beat the rival and it said I lost. At one point I also saw a rival drive off the road.
After pressing G the achievements seem to reset. I beat two rivals in a row after a reset, yet it said I beat 3 rivals (I did beat the other one before pressing G, maybe it stayed unlocked).

I don't really get the car unlocks, when starting the game I can only pick the red one. When I find a super teleport I can choose any car I like without unlocking it.

When on the highway I paused the game and the other cars kept going.

The music doesn't seem to loop if you spend enough time in a level.

At one point a super teleport (the volcano caverns) kept crashing the car at spawn, and the car kept spawning a bit further. This problem stayed in the next run so I had to reset with G.

Try sliding into the highway teleport, the car will be sideways. I was able to jump off the highway like this, but when entering the next level the spawn bug from above happened again.

Some things should probably be explained in a help menu/tutorial, like the 'switches'. First I thought they were security boots or something.

The music and graphics are great! I absolutely love the whole retro/80's vibe.
There's a ton of things to discover, which is great.
The highway was also a nice touch, finding my way in this game was a lot of fun.
The controls are hard to get used to, but fair enough for the game.

Overall it's an amazing game. There's a bunch of bugs but I guess that's what you mean by '90% done'. It's still very playable and a lot of fun. I hope to see more of this.

UltimoGames responds:

Yeah many problems pop up because the levels are 'persistent'. The game should completely reset, to reset all the levels and its pick ups. I should make a save system that keeps track of the permanent unlocks. The garagedoor I didnt know, thanks for pointing that out. Rivals need some work, car unlocks too. Pause affects only your car, not others. Music loop is easy to fix for me, Super teleport bug is pesky! Sliding into the highway, I did not know that bug! ohh lots of things to do man.. Thanks for the great review gameworm!!

Very nice.
I really like games with a ton of levels.
The acceleration feels awkward, I think it could use some tweeking. After all the levels are supposed to provide the challenge, not the controls.
Other than that this is a very fun game.
One thing I did notice is that the 4 challenging doors at the end can be entered. Am I supposed to enter them with the forcefield thing in front of them or is it a bug? (I did complete the first 20 levels first, so they could be bonus areas)

JeffreyDriver responds:

Thanks for the feedback. Those doors can be entered when they appear. They are bonus levels, unlocked by picking up the trophies.

Fun game, but there are some issues.

When I was fighting the first boss, he did his bomb throwing attack without the crosshair. He was stuck in that position and I had to restart. Before he did the attack I tried jumping on top of the little bomb, but I went through. (I'm using chrome, never went fullscreen)
In a lot of situations I would've liked it if the character was a bit smaller. This way it's possible to create more diverse enemy encounters.
The biggest issue I had with the game were the clouds. How was I supposed to know where they would attack? I lost a ton of lifes because of that part.

Other than that I enjoyed it. The bosses are great, trying to find their weaknesses in all those attacks was a lot of fun.
I also liked how the music changed when you go underwater. Apart from the short end game loop (it's playing while I'm writing this and driving me nuts) the music is great.
Seeing that final boss gave me a nice dose of nostalgia.

Keep up the good work!

DannyMrt responds:

When the clouds attack, pay close attention to where they look, that's where they'll strike.
For King Bob-omb, you can only stomp the bomb before he throws it once. You'll have to counter that move in another way. I think you may have found the second way to counter that move via bumping him. You'll have to bump him again while he's unsteady to damage him. That move also has a third way to counter it, but the fun is in finding out how, so I won't say it. Thank you for the feed-back.

Very nice game.
I can honestly say I haven't seen anything like it. At first I underestimated the game a bit because of the simple graphics, but it turned out to be a lot of fun.
There is only one major problem with this game: I want moar!

It would be nice to have different worlds or something, and maybe some kind of boss(es).
Having different places/lengths for the snake might be useful for creating more levels.
I know you are able to walk back to the snake everytime, but for paranoia's sake I would have liked to see a reset level button.
The music was great, it didn't get repetitive and fit the game.
Very good, I hope to see more.

joqlepecheur responds:

Thanks, your comment is motivating.
I will see what I can come up with.

I really liked this game, I even prefer this puzzle style over the regular point and click games.
If I can't find something in another point and click game I'll be faster to check the walkthrough because I probably missed an item or something, with these games I'll try longer without a walkthrough because I think I failed a puzzle.
Puzzles and thinking outside the box is always way more fun than pixelhunting, and this one definitely required thinking outside the box.

It took me 44 minutes to complete the game.
Fun game, keep up the good work.

selfdefiant responds:

Thanks! :)

I like these kind of games, but please fix the wall jumping. When jumping upwards the character immediately slows down and sticks to the wall. Either lower the wallfriction when the character is moving upwards or remove the stickyness completely while moving upwards.
It would also be nice if some enemies could actually be shot.
Overall I liked it, even if it was a bit short.

mccolgst responds:

Thanks for that feedback! I'll try to get the wall jumping to feel better

Kinda fun, the idea of passing those random obstacles in each level is nice.
But did you seriously just ask the guy below if he found any bugs? Lol.
Sometimes when the character dies it freaks out. It bounces all over the place.
I first completed the main game and went through the credits. After that I played the 'expansion pack' (which is waaay too easy btw) and now I'm stuck on a white screen with the character still in it.
Fast movement and hitdetection on small objects is always hard to pull off, but in this game the fast movement and weird bouncyness does make it kinda fun.
The music is nice, but it just stopped on this white screen. Does it not loop? Might just be the buggy white screen tbh.
Try to make the expansion pack longer and better. And maybe add another boss, preferably not a timed survival boss like the first one.

TheSecretPenguin responds:

Thank you for your review. The white screen is a testing one and if its shown then there is a bug. I'll see if I can fix it.

Okay for a first game, but lots of room for improvement.
The first thing that is annoying me is doing it while I'm typing this review. It's the music loop.
I know the game isn't very long but the music loop is a few seconds long, nobody can play this game very long without going crazy.
Something that would improve the game a lot is some animation. When the spikes hit the floor they just disappear. Make them splatter.
The controls seem fine and responsive, even though it's just moving left and right.
A problem with the gameplay is the large amount of spikes, this makes the player too dependent on luck. I know that making it random makes the game more interesting, but so far it's all random spikes with a point drop. A bunch of powerups inbetween those spikes and maybe some health drops would allow you to make the score treshold bigger and makes the game a lot more fun.
The game is very short, some levels (higher level means faster spikes, or some other hazards) and an arcade mode where you try to get a highscore would really spice this game up.

Like you say in the game over screen, no one is perfect, but experience goes a long way. Don't stop making games if this gets blammed, just keep improving and keep trying.

Also, not to brag or anything, but I totally beat your game.

JayClarkus responds:

Thank you so much for the critique. I've never written so many notes before in my life. I'll be taking all of this into consideration for every game I make from this point on (specifically the animation part, I'm pretty sure the lack of the animation is what killed this game.)

I'm not exactly a big fan of this type of game, but that is just my preference so I'll try to review this game objectively.
It seems there is a lot of content, that is definitely a good thing.
The interviews repeated a lot of questions, this made them a bit annoying.
The music choice is good and it is an important feature, I didn't grind much but I can imagine 1 song getting repetitive if you put some time in this game.
The overall user interface feels a bit bland. Some backgrounds would be nice. These can even depend on the things you buy (eg. If you buy an apartment you get the inside of an apartment as your background). It would also be nice if you could see pictures of the items you can buy or already bought.

Overall it's a good game but I suggest making the user interface a bit more appealing.

FIL1994 responds:

Thanks for the review and remaining objective.
Those are some good ideas.
